In the 16th century, the Pre-Atlantic Slave trade in the West and local slave markets in Africa began to be shipped to other continents. Portuguese merchants purchased human slaves as prisoners of war from the tribal chiefs they agreed upon. These prisoners of war were employed for mining and for different jobs. In the 17th century, only one detection of 30-35 is mentioned in Europe. Most of these slaves brought from Africa were Nigerians.
Tribal lords sold people to European slave traders in exchange for things like copper, jewelry, weapons, and cloth. Lords, even seashells, were selling people to merchants, they are known to use these seashells as money among themselves.
The slave trade initiated by the Portuguese in Africa caused people to be treated very badly. Punishments such as not being able to walk, not eating ... were given with chains that were hit on various parts of their bodies.
