We would compile for you 10 natural wonders that will amaze people with the nature of Africa. These; Ahhagar Mountains, Dades Skiing, Tenere Desert, Lake Assal, Erta Ale, Kalahari Desert, Congo River, Virunga Mountains, Skeleton Beaches, and Victoria Falls.

Dazzling Places of Africa

1-Ahaggar Mountains

Sahara is the lord of the deserts. In the Sahara desert, when the sun is right above you, you cannot see anything on the horizon. What you can see is just a blur that can be either too close or far away. As you move south from the In Salah oasis towards the middle of the great desert, you gradually become aware of the blackout that covers both sides of the intensifying opacity.

At the end of this progression, a seemingly endless and high abyss is reached, that is, the very edge of the Ahaggar Massif in the Algerian lands. The Ahaggar, which emerged as a surprise even in the list of surprises prepared for us by Africa, is a giant island about the size of Spain, established in the Sahara Ocean. Surrounded by cliffs on three sides, Ahaggar goes back to the Tanezrouft, known in the west as the Land of Thirst, where a traveler left behind by the caravan in the old days died immediately.

2-Dades Gorge

Where the Dades River breaks the eerie hills of the High Atlas Mountains, there is a narrow ravine between the walls that extend like towers to a dizzying height of 500 meters.

These reefs were coral reefs lying on the bottom of the sea about 200 million years ago. However, the yellow movements of several million years on the earth's crust led these rock masses to rise gradually and fold to form the High Atlas Mountains. It is now possible to read the geological story of these mountains on the multi-colored sandstone, limestone, and clay layers that form the walls of the bay.

3-Tenere Desert

The area called "desert in the desert" because it lacks life is located in the farthest part of the Sahara to the sea. In the landlocked Tenere Desert of Nigeria, sand waves, including the world's tallest (244 meters) dune, drift towards the horizon and continue to give way to larger dunes as if they would last forever.

Tenere Desert

But just like the whole of the Sahara, Tenere is not just about sand. In an area the size of California, there are pebble-covered plateaus scorched by desert winds and fantastic rocks that a traveler looks like to gin, giants, or demons. The oasis village of Bilma, located on the eastern border of Tenere, is the starting point of camel caravans, crossing the 560 km desert to make salt trade and coming to the market center of Agadez. Bilma later gave its name to Bilma's Grand Ergin, from Nigeria to Chad, to the 1200km of salt that stretches in the northeast direction. The southern half of the Erg consists of huge, parallel sand dunes 160 km long and 1 km wide. The pits located between two sand dunes in hot and burning deserts are called bumps and bumps are used as natural routes for caravaners.

4-Lake Assal

Assal Lake, the world's most salty water body; Perhaps it is located on the cracking land to divide Africa in two. There was a time when the ancient Romans were so saturated with the abundance of the natural wonders of Africa that the latest travelers' stories were welcomed politely, saying 'There is always something new outside of Africa'. However, the truth was that they only took more than a few timid sips than the whole continent had promised.

5-Erta Ale Volcano

Erta Ale Volcano in Ethiopia's Afar region is one of the most dangerous volcanoes on the planet. It is constantly shivering as it has two lava lakes on its summit. The amount of lava in the lake is constantly changing, causing the Earth's surface to shake

6- Kalahari Desert

The Kalahari Desert is a semi-desert located in the African Continent. It is possible to say that it is located in the Southern part of Africa in detail. This desert, also known as Botswana, stands out as a common dessert that includes Namibia along with South Africa.

The northwestern part of the Kalahari desert receives up to 600 millimeters of precipitation, while the southwestern part receives up to 130 millimeters of precipitation. The wind blowing over the Indian Ocean decreases with little rainfall. The desert, with its red color and soft sand, has alluvium brought by the old rivers.

Kalahari Dessert

Vast grasslands are found in different parts of the Kalahari desert. It is also possible to say that there are shrubs and some major trees. With the rainfall throughout the year, different flowers are also added to the vegetation.

7-Congo River

Congo River is the deepest river in the world with a depth of 230 meters. Starting from the border of Angola, drawing a sickle right in the middle of Africa, it cuts the Equator line twice, feeds tropical trees and impenetrable dark forests, and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It is the ninth largest river in the world with a length of 4700 kilometers, and the third-largest river with 41 thousand cubic meters of water it carries to the ocean per second. This majestic stream separates the two neighboring capitals.

8-Virunga Mountains

Standing at the intersection of three East African countries, these Virunga Mountains are an active mountain base. The lava erupting from the Virunga mountains greatly affects the formation of the surrounding shapes. The mountain ranges are located on the western line of the region known as the African great fault valley.

Once all the rivers on this line poured into the Nile River in the north, it is thought that they accumulated as a result of natural dams created by this volcanic eruption and formed Lake Kivu. Kivu Lake, with its deeply indented shores, is considered by many to be the most beautiful lake in Africa. On the other hand, this lake is a time bomb despite the calm beauty of its waters. Carbon dioxide, which leaks from the lake bed and accumulates due to the huge pressure on the water surface, is one of the most fundamental elements of this situation. Although the average depth of the lake is 180 m, it is known that it goes down to 400 m in some places. In 1986, in the Nyus Lake in Cameroon, which had similar conditions, the water surface was suddenly surrounded by these carbon dioxide clouds, and then these sultry clouds that covered the densely populated valleys like a cover caused the death of more than 1700 people.

9-Skeleton Beaches

Shipwrecks and "the goods of the sinking ship" on one of the world's most dangerous and deserted coastlines ... Between the ancient Namibian Desert and the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean, a field of white sand stretches.

Portuguese sailors named these vast beaches of Namibia "The Coasts of Hell". Today, the same place is known as Skeleton Beaches. This beach, which stretches for 500 km under the scorching sun, as if stretched from both ends, offers a completely hellish image with no forgiveness on the one hand, and on the other hand, it has a dazzling beauty in its absolute forgotten and desolation. When the Swedish explorer and naturalist Charles John Andersson came to these beaches in 1859, "a chilling emotion and fear" covered his entire body. "Even death," he said, "would be preferable to exile to such a country."

10-Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya, is one of the most magnificent waterfalls in the world. Earth's ever-disappearing rainbow is here. It is located above the Zambezi River, between the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The waterfalls are approximately 1.7 kilometers wide and 128 m high.

Scottish explorer David Livingstone visited the falls in 1855 and named it Victoria Falls in memory of Queen Victoria. However, the waterfall is locally Mosi-oa-Tunya.

Waterfalls are part of two national parks, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia and Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe. Waterfalls are one of the most important tourist attractions in South Africa. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the seven wonders of the world.
