History of the Lascaux Cave

The Lascaux Cave is the most striking of the 25 embellished caverns recognized in the Vézère valley (like the Chauvet cavern). The disclosure of the cavern was made accidentally on September 12, 1940. While this land was as yet involved by the Germans, four young people Marcel RAVIDAT, Jacques MARSAL, Georges AGNIEL, and Simon COENCAS strolled with their canine Rabot no a long way from Sarlat. The last unexpectedly started to seek after a bunny in an opening. The 4 young people followed him and understand that the opening speaks with a lot bigger depression, so the passageway to the cavern and its numerous displays was found. Subsequent to assessing its profundity by tossing rocks, a couple of days after the fact they choose to develop the opening to sneak in and investigate the cavern through and through. This is the way they find the renowned cavern compositions, perceived as World Heritage by Unesco, which decorate the dividers of the cavern, left by our Cro-Magnon precursors who lived in these caverns. The canvases and inscriptions are supposed to be 18,000 years of age. The very year, the cavern was named a Historic Monument.

During the 1950s, the Lascaux cavern was opened to general society and well known with guests and travelers from everywhere the world. This concentrated abuse has caused harm. The first cavern was shut to people in general in 1963. In 1983, an imitation of the cavern was made and is available to guests. On December 15, 2016, the cavern, totally indistinguishably remade, same size, same compositions, and rock craftsmanship etchings, same procedures, same colors… was initiated in the core of the International Center for Cave Art.
