Ten Fabulous Inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci

3 min read

    Leonardo Da Vinci, one of the most important representatives of the Renaissance Period, has dozens of inventions and works. But most people know him with his Mona Lisa painting. Leonardo Da Vinci's ideas have survived to the present day thanks to the occasion that he recorded his inventions in his notebook. For you, our dear readers, we have compiled the 10 most important inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci around the world;

Leonardo Da Vinci's Inventions

1- Parachute

At a time when airplanes were not yet invented, the aircraft he had drawn led Leonardo Da Vinci to design a parachute in 1515. This parachute design is considered the ancestor of today's parachutes. This design was tested by adventurer Adrian Nicholas in 2000 and this parachute, which was very difficult to control, gave successful results at that time.

2- Machine Gun

This design, which cannot be compared with modern machine guns, cannot fire bullets in a rapid manner like today's machine guns. Da Vinci's weapon can fire many bullets at the same time. Even though his notes state that he hates war and death machines, as today, investors of that time wanted to earn the money they need by using their willingness to invest money in war. Like many projects of Da Vinci, this machine gun was never produced in design.

3- Roller

Although it is not seen as a valuable invention, bearings are used in many areas today. For example bearings, bike, skateboard, etc. It is used in many mechanical and motor vehicles.

 4- Da Vinci's Diving Suit

He thought of sinking the enemy ships by sending men wearing diving suits from under the sea the enemy ships trying to approach towards the harbor. Although this idea sounds simple today, it is brilliant for the 15th century. If these efforts were carried out at that time, perhaps the enemy ships could be repulsed without the need for the Venetian navy.

5- Armored Tank

This turtle-like tank with 36 different weapons could move with the muscle power of 8 people. Although this tank, which can be fired from all directions, could easily keep enemy soldiers away, the tank could not move due to some errors in the drawings. It is presumed that Da Vinci probably made these mistakes in case his designs were captured by enemies.

6- Ornithopter

With Ornithopter, Da Vinci aimed for humans to fly like birds. The bat-like design works with human power. We would like to point out that if you do not have very strong muscles, you can hit the ground with this flying bat. As can be seen from these drawings of Da Vinci, he is quite experienced in aerodynamics.

7- Self-driving car

This vehicle, which goes to itself without a driver, moves in the specified direction after the mechanism on it is installed. Although Da Vinci did not specify this mechanical accent in detail in his notes, it does not change the fact that Da Vinci, who lived in the 15th century, had an advanced imagination.

8- Helicopter

In a period when there was no human structure in a flying machine, Da Vinci put forward the idea of providing flight by pushing and pulling the air with the force of rotation in his drawings. Based on the drawings, although the spiral structure of the wings seems to be suitable for this in theory, it must be rotated at very high speeds in order to resist gravity.

9- Robot Knight

Inspired by the perfect anatomical structure of the human body, Da Vinci designed the first humanoid robot machine. This robot developed for Lodovico Sforza is one of the few projects that Da Vinci has been able to implement. This design was reproduced in 2002 by robotics expert Mark Rosheim. Rosheim later used some of these designs in Nasa's robots.

10- the city of the future

In the 1400s, all of Europe was fighting the black plague. Aiming to make cities more protected against diseases, Da Vinci has drawn a city system where sewage systems work better and minimize the areas that can spread germs.
